Susan Theiler joins GIC Group
as Director of Business Development

GIC Group is pleased to announce that Susan Scurlock Theiler has joined our staff.  She will take over the role of building partnerships for GIC with companies in the food and agriculture sector.  Susan comes to GIC from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA/FAS).  Her work for USDA included posts as Director of U.S. Agricultural Trade Offices and Agricultural Attaché in China, Hong Kong, and France.  As Deputy Director for Asia in FAS’s Trade Policy area, she organized the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) Biotechnology Dialogue and oversaw negotiations on Free Trade Agreements.  In her export promotion work for FAS, she developed business opportunities through trade shows and marketing campaigns, as well as by negotiating trade and food safety issues, such as mad cow disease, bird flu, and biotechnology.  An expert on China’s agriculture, she developed the original agriculture strategy for China’s WTO Accession Agreement and was the Chairman of USDA’s first China Task Force. Her assignments with USDA also included multi-year details to the World Bank Rural Development Department and the House Agriculture Committee on Capitol Hill.  Susan speaks Mandarin Chinese and French.  She holds degrees from Georgetown, University of Virginia, and the University of Chicago.  “Susan Theiler’s range of experience in agricultural trade promotion and international trade issues are an ideal fit for GIC’s staff roster,” says Rick Gilmore, President and CEO of the GIC Group.
