Since January 2002, The GIC Group has been working with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) to
develop new market strategies for Virginia companies in Latin America.GIC's Director of Business Development for Latin America, Daniel Secondi. coordinated commercial meetings between the Virginia
delegation and the Cuban government representatives, including a business meeting with President of Cuba, Mr. Fidel Castro, and the President of Alimport, (the Cuban food import agency), Mr. Pedro Alvarez
Borrego. GIC Group provided support for Virginia companies in their efforts to develop trade relations and obtain export licenses from the Department of Commerce. GIC played a crucial role in
structuring sales agreements between Virginia companies and Alimport.
Two Virginia companies sold fresh apples to Cuba during the event. Cargoes will be shipped in January 2003. Pending
contracts include chicken and pork products, soybean oil and meal, wood products, powdered milk, and Virginia wine.
GIC is developing new market strategies in other Latin American countries,
