Congratulations to all the participants in the Food Safety Roundtable held at the Great Wall of China April 27-28, 2009. The event was a great success and progress is already being made to ensure future food safety in global trade.

In the weeks ahead, GIC Group will be communicating with participants about follow-up to the Roundtable. The clear mandate from the event is that the food industry should form a Global Food Safety Steering Committee to coordinate the adoption of industry self-certification for food quality and safety. Work is needed to advance consumer confidence, build partnerships with customers, and harmonize and streamline food safety standards and regulations.
