Invitation to the Food Safety Roundtable:
Promoting Quality in the Global Food Chain
April 27-28, 2009, Beijing, China
We would like to invite you to participate in an important and informative food safety conference—Food Safety Roundtable: Promoting Quality in the Global Food Chain. The Roundtable is a private sector, working conference for the agricultural and food industry and will be held April 27-28, 2009 at the Commune by the Great Wall Kempinski Resort near Beijing.
With all of the headlines and public worry about food safety problems worldwide, how will this conference be able to provide solutions? By cooperating together, the Roundtable offers a global industry forum where food and beverage producers, manufacturers, retailers, traders, and restaurants can share effective food safety strategies. The Roundtable will provide a special opportunity, allowing industry executives to raise common concerns and develop common approaches to food safety in a marketing context.
In 2007 and 2008, our global food system was beset by weak enforcement of international food safety standards, lax practices, and outright industry abuses. Many of the problems cast a spotlight on China, but most countries have experienced crises. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration has been under evaluation and has issues of public and industry confidence. To address these problems, national and international groups have held numerous meetings, mostly from a technical and regulatory viewpoint.
Are these activities helping to restore consumer confidence and business stability? The missing link has been a private, global industry forum where corporate leaders can confer and propose risk management strategies along with investment prospects. The Food Safety Roundtable will serve this need. As the fastest growing source of food ingredients for world markets, China will be a major focus of the Roundtable, but the discussions will be globally oriented.
The lead sponsor of the Roundtable is Rabobank International, the wholesale and international retail bank unit of the Rabobank Group, a full-range financial services provider awarded a Triple A credit rating since 1981. Food and agribusiness is the international prime focus of the Rabobank Group.
Two companies: GIC Group of the United States and BOABC of China will serve as co-hosts for this event. The GIC Group is a 28-year old, international agribusiness company in the United States with a multinational corporate client base, and its partner, BOABC, is China’s largest agribusiness consulting company.
We hope that you will decide to attend this important, results-oriented conference. Please indicate your interest in attending by sending an e-mail message to FoodSafety@gicgroup.com. Also, feel free to contact us by phone to express your interest or for any questions you may have.
