GIC Group spells out innovative leveraging techniques for new technologies at
BIO 2006 Conference
“There are several models for private-public partnerships in biotechnology, but fewer success stories,” according to Rick Gilmore, President/ CEO of GIC.
This year is the second year that GIC and DuPont have cosponsored a panel at the BIO Conference. Gilmore highlighted in his presentation the following points for corporate positioning in new technologies:
Define the technology space
- Evaluate resources for developing new technology
- Leverage combined private/public sector resources:
- Academic
- Non-profit
- Government
- Structure innovative private/public partnerships
- Synchronize R&D partnerships with tight commercialization timetable
He drew on several examples of notable private-public initiatives to fast track the technology from R&D to commercialization. “It’s a spotty track record,” Gilmore said, “but thanks to lessons learned, private-public partnerships offer an opportunity to leverage R&D resources for product development.”
The other panelist topics were: 1) Partner Selection; 2) Alliance Design; 3) Alliance Management; 4) Alliance Assessment and Termination; and 5) Broadening the Impact of Partnerships.”
