GIC Group President, Richard Gilmore, will be chairing a Breakout Session on June 21, 2005, at the annual BIO 2005 convention, being held this year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The panel title is “Ag Biotech IP: Progress and Challenges Ahead.” The panelists include; Mr. Bernward Garthoff, Member, Board of Management, Bayer CropScience AG; Ms. Marian Flattery, Head, Global IP, Syngenta Crop Protection, Basel, Switzerland; Mr. Daniel Cosgrove, Corporate Counsel, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.; and Mr. Fred Yoder, past President of the National Corn Growers Association.
Intellectual property considerations are some of the most significant roadblocks to market access facing agribusiness today. Food producers and allied agribusiness industries must address IP concerns to ensure a strong stream of novel and improved products. The re-fueling of R&D investment from the private and public sectors is crucial. Ag biotech IP recognition and labeling concerns have made companies reluctant to develop and introduce products into worldwide distribution channels.
This session explores the obstacles, progress made to date, challenges, and the attractive opportunities available to the global community. Panelists will discuss enforcement, plant breeder and grower rights, and benefits resulting from IP ensured investment in ag biotech discoveries.
Copies of the panel’s remarks will be available on this site in early July and in hard copy format from GIC Group headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.
