GIC facilitated sales for 20,000 tons of American soybean meal to CubaAlexandria, VA - GIC is pleased to announce today that Perdue Farms has concluded, soybean meal sales of 20,000 tons to Cuba. The ship will be loaded in Perdue
Farms soybean meal facility at the Norfolk port in Virginia. According to Daniel Secondi, Director of Latin America Business Development for GIC,
"It's a breakthrough sale for the state of Virginia." Mr. Secondi spearheaded the transaction by assisting in the structuring of the final sales contract in direct negotiation with Cuban buyers.
Also, Mr. Secondi confirmed that other contracts between the Cubans and Virginia companies are still under negotiation. GIC has a contract agreement with Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
(VDACS) for export promotion to Latin America, helping Virginia companies to develop new business in the region. A few months earlier, Mr. Secondi led the first Virginia delegation to visit Cuba. This
trip resulted first in the sale of several containers of Virginia apples. This latest sale of soybean meal puts the total contract value for Virginia sales to Cuba at around $4.1 million. Mr. Secondi
pointed out that this is a new market for U.S. ag suppliers and Virginia has taken advantage of this niche market. For further information on GIC Group export promotion services, please contact Mr. Daniel
